Ritchey Leads Tar Heel Men At Garrett Penn State Open

Sophomore Connor Ritchey led all UNC competitors with a ninth-place finish in men’s sabre Sunday at Day 2 of the Garrett Penn State Open in University Park, Pa. Ritchey was the highest finisher in a strong showing of depth for the Carolina men.

In the foil field of 29, Richard Cho was 11th, Gabe Foster 19th, Ian Head 22nd and Ezra Baeli-Wang 24th.

In epee, a field of 32, Michael Gopman Slonim was 17th and Jacob Henkels was 18th.

In the sabre field off 33 after Ritchey, Matthew Garrelick was 15th, Theophilus Onigbinde 27th and Samuel Tate 29th. Rounding out the group were Griffin Morehead in 31st and Alex Matthew in 33rd.

After the Thanksgiving break the Tar Heels return to action with the Boston Dual Meets on Dec. 3. Also that weekend is the Richmond North American Cup.
