COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. - A pair of University of North Carolina swimmers and three Tar Heel swimming coaches have been named to the 2014-15 United States Swimming National Team.
Rising junior Ben Colley of Williamsburg, Va. was named to the men's National Team in the 200-meter butterfly while Carolina alumnus Chip Peterson, Class of 2010, was chosen for the Team in the 10-kilometer open water swimming event. Peterson is a native of Wrightsville Beach, Va., and is currently an assistant coach with the UNC program.
The top six athletes, in Olympic Events only, from the combined results of the 2014 Phillips 66/USA Swimming Nationals and 2014 Pan Pacific Championships; times from Prelims, Semi-Finals and Finals (A, B and C) are used to determine the National team selections.
Three members of the University of North Carolina coaching staff were also named to the National Team coaches' list for 2014-15. UNC head swimming coach Rich DeSelm, associate head coach Mike Litzinger and assistant coach Sean Quinn (head coach of North Carolina Aquatic Club) were all named to the list.
