CHAPEL HILL, N.C. --- North Carolina senior defensive tackle Ethan Farmer received notice Wednesday evening that his eligibility issue has been resolved and he has been cleared to play the 2014 season.
Farmer, a native of Tabor City, N.C., started 13 games in 2013 and is the only returning starter on Carolina's defensive line. He finished the season with 30 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and a forced fumble.
"We are thankful to have Ethan cleared to play and I know he's excited to have this behind him," said head coach Larry Fedora. "Ethan is our only experienced player and we'll be counting on him for senior leadership in that group. He has practiced hard during the preseason and has not let this situation affect his preparation for the season."
Carolina opens the season Saturday vs. Liberty at 6 p.m.
