Two Golfers Selected All-America Scholars

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - University of North Carolina golfers Leslie Cloots and Maia Schechter have been selected 2014 Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-America Scholars as announced by the WGCA on Wednesday.

Cloots, a rising sophomore from Antwerp, Belgium, played in nine tournaments this year, including one as an individual.  Her top finish came at the SMU/Dallas Athletic Club where she tied for 28th place.  Cloots carded a 76.65 stroke average and scored her low round of 72 three times.  She was the runner-up at the 2014 British Ladies Amateur Championship and participated in the 2014 SRIXON XX0 Ladies Open, an event which is part of the China LPGA Tour.

Schechter, a rising senior from Takoma Park, Md., played in six tournaments this year, including one as an individual.  Her top finish came at the ACC Championships where she tied for 22nd place.  Schechter carded a 78.67 stroke average, including one under-par round.

The criteria for selection to the WGCA All-America Scholar Team are very stringent as honorees must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50.
