PINEHURST, N.C. - Former Tar Heel golfer Catherine O'Donnell carded a 5-over-par 75 in the second round of the 69th U.S. Women's Open and missed the cut for the final two rounds by four strokes. O'Donnell posted a 13-over 153 total at Pinehurst Resort and Country Club's Course No. 2, a par-70, 6,296-yard layout. O'Donnell's second round included one birdie and six bogeys.
Michelle Wie is the leader after two rounds at 4-under 136 while Lexi Thompson is three strokes back in second place at 1-under 139.
O'Donnell, who played for the Tar Heels 2009-12, qualified for this year's U.S. Women's Open by finishing atop the leaderboard at the sectional qualifier at Rumson Country Club in Rumson, N.J. In the qualifier, O'Donnell fired a 2-over-par 144 with rounds of 2-under 69 and 4-over 75.
O'Donnell, from Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., was a four-time All-ACC performer and an All-America performer at Carolina. She won three collegiate tournaments and won a 2013 SunCoast Ladies Tour event. This is her second year playing on the Symetra Tour.
