Release: 06/11/2014

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - University of North Carolina former golfer Mark Wilson is set to tee it up at the 114th U.S. Open which will be played this Thursday through Sunday in Pinehurst, N.C.  Wilson, a 1994-97 Tar Heel letterman, will tee off the 10th tee at 12:52 p.m. in Thursday's first round.

Wilson has played in the U.S. Open three times, missing the cut each time, but this year he hopes to change that at the famed Pinehurst #2, a par-70, 7,562-yard layout.  Wilson qualified to play in this year's event at the sectional qualifier in Columbus, Ohio, where he shot a 4-under 138 at Sciota Country Club and Brookside Golf & Country Club.  Wilson has won five PGA Tour titles, the last coming at the 2012 Humana Challenge.  He has also won three titles on the NGA Hooters Tour and was runner-up to Tiger Woods at the 1992 U.S. Junior Amateur.  Wilson was a two-time All-America and two time All-ACC performer, 1996, 1997 while playing for the Tar Heels and won the 1996 ACC Championship.
