Release: 06/04/2014

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Freshmen Brayden Schnur and Ronnie Schneider led a strong cadre of Tar Heel men's tennis players featured in the final singles and doubles rankings released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association on Tuesday.

Schnur, a freshman from Pickering, Ontario, was the 13th ranked singles player in the nation in 2013-14.  Fellow frosh Ronnie Schneider of Bloomington, Ind., was ranked 37th and sophomore Brett Clark of Naples, Fla., came in at No. 83rd.

Two UNC doubles teams were also in the final rankings including the tandem of Schnur and Clark at No. 22 and senior Nelson Vick and junior Oystein Steiro at the 87th spot.

Carolina features two of the top three ranked freshman singles players in the final 2014 rankings for men and the top two ranked freshman women's players.

At #13, Schnur is the top ranked men's freshman followed by UCLA's Mackenzie McDonald at #23 and by Schneider at #37.  On the women's side, UNC's Jamie Loeb (#1 overall) is the top ranked freshman and Hayley Carter (#3 overall) is the second ranked first year player.

Overall, the Tar Heel men finished the year ranked #7 in the nation, it's highest ITA ranking ever, and reached the NCAA quarterfinals for the first time since 1992.  UNC's 27 dual match wins were the most in school record (previous record was 25).
