Carolina Begins Final Week With Gardner-Webb

SHELBY, N.C. ---North Carolina opens the final week of the 2014 regular season Tuesday with a visit to Veterans Field at Keeter Stadium to face Gardner-Webb at 6 p.m. Carolina is 30-21 on the year after a 5-4 win over Florida State on Sunday. GWU is 23-26 following a sweep of William & Mary last weekend. The game, which will serve as a fundraiser for the American Legion World Series held annually in Shelby, is the first home game for Gardner-Webb against UNC since the two teams began playing one another in 2004.

• North Carolina is 10-1 all-time against Gardner-Webb.
• Tuesday will mark Gardner-Webb's first home game in the series. The previous 11 meetings have come at Boshamer Stadium.
• UNC beat the Runnin' Bulldogs on March 12 in Chapel Hill, 7-1. Luis Paula went 6.0 innings and allowed one run on four hits to get the win.
• Carolina and GWU met for the first time in 2004 and have played at least once in every season since then.
• GWU's lone win over Carolina came in 2012, a 7-4 decision in Chapel Hill.
