Moss Earns Academic Honor For Second Year
Release: 05/01/2014

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Junior Benton Moss, a pitcher on the North Carolina baseball team, has earned Capital One Academic All-District honors for the second year in a row. To be a candidate for the award, announced Thursday, a player must have a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or better and be a starter or key reserve on his team.

Moss, a right-hander from Enfield, N.C., is majoring in economics and business administration at UNC and carries a 3.85 grade point average. A freshman All-America selection in 2012, he is 3-2 this spring with a 3.75 ERA in 11 starts for the Tar Heels (27-19).

Moss is attending UNC on a Morehead-Cain Scholarship, the University's most prestigious academic grant. In addition to his academic and athletic achievements, he is a talented musician (piano, guitar) who has performed at the Rammy Awards in each of the last two years. He is a member of Athletes in Action and participates in the Richard A. Baddour Carolina Leadership Academy as part of the Veteran Leaders program, the highest level of leadership training.

Moss is one of two pitchers named to the 11-player team, which is selected by position. Those honored on one of the eight All-District teams are eligible for Academic All-America honors, which will be announced on May 30.
