GREENSBORO, N.C. - The women's golf team at the University of North Carolina finished in twelfth at the Bryan National Collegiate registering a 56-over 920. Elizabeth Mallett led the Tar Heels firing 6-over 222 total score to finish in eighth place.
Mallett, a sophomore from Sutton Coldfield, England, concluded round three shooting one birdie and four bogeys for a 3-over 75. Mallett finished in eighth place when she recorded a 1-over in the first round and a 2-over in the second round for a 6-over 222 overall score. Senior Katherine Perry finished in 42nd place after carding 16-over 232, with one birdie, five bogeys, and a double bogey for a 6-over 78 in the final round. Perry, from Cary, N.C., shot 8-over 80 in the first round and 2-over 74 in the second round. Jackie Chang, a native of Scottsdale, Ariz., registered two birdies, four bogeys, and three double bogeys in the third round to finish with an 8-over 80, which contributed to her scores of 2-over 74 and 7-over 79 on the first and second days, respectively. Senior Chang concluded the tournament in 50th place with a 17-over 233. Freshman Leslie Cloots recorded 10-over 82 in the final round with three birdies, eight bogeys, and two double bogeys, adding to her 22-over 238 overall score. Cloots, of Antwerp, Belgium, finished in 76th place after shooting 8-over 80 on day one and 4-over 76 on day two. Maia Schechter, a junior from Takoma Park, Md., ended the tournament with 29-over 245 in 89th place. In addition to her 3-over 75 in round one and 12-over 84 in round two, Schechter recorded a 14-over 86 with nine bogeys and two double bogeys in round three. The Tar Heels registered one individual player, Samantha Marks. Marks, a sophomore native of Maitland, Fla., finished in 33rd place after she carded a 15-over 231 total score. Marks fired two birdies, six bogeys, and one double bogey for a 6-over in the third round, after she shot a 7-over 79 and a 2-over 74 in the first and second rounds.
Third-ranked Duke concluded the tournament in first place shooting 18-over 882. South Carolina finished in second with a 39-over 903, and Wake Forest took third with a 41-over 905. Florida State and Virginia came in fourth and fifth with a 42-over 906 and a 45-over 909, respectively. There was a two-way tie for sixth between Clemson and Louisville, each carding 49-over 913. Ohio State finished eighth with a 50-over 916, and Florida finished ninth with a 51-over 915.
In the field of 93 players, Duke's Celine Boutier came out on top with an even-par 216, and Clemson's Ashlan Ramsey finished second with a 1-over 217. In a four-way tie for third with 4-over 220 are Duke's Laetitia Beck and Yu Liu, Florida's Camilla Hedberg, and Wake Forest's Sierra Sims. South Carolina's Justine Dreher and North Carolina's Elizabeth Mallett finished with a 5-over 221 and a 6-over 222 in seventh and eighth, respectively.
The 54-hole event was played on the Bryan Park Champions Course, which features a par 72, 6,386-yard layout. North Carolina will return for play in the SMU Invitational in Dallas, Texas on April 4-6. The SMU Invitational will be played on the Dallas Athletic Club, which features a par-72, 6,301-yard layout.
