CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - North Carolina junior Loren Shealy has been honored as a 2013 NFHCA Division I Scholar of Distinction, announced Thursday by the National Field Hockey Coaches' Association.
The award, which Shealy earned for the second year in a row, goes to Division I field hockey student-athletes who carried a GPA of 3.9 or better through the fall semester of the 2013-14 school year.
Shealy, a forward from Charlotte, is majoring in business administration and serves as the Tar Heels' team captain. She is a two-time winners of the NCAA Elite 89 Award, which goes to the player (sophomore and above) with the highest cumulative GPA at each championship site.
Shealy also was honored as the 2013 Atlantic Coast Conference Scholar Athlete of the Year for field hockey and on Wednesday was one of 10 Tar Heels named to the NFHCA National Academic Squad. That total is the highest in program history.
