CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The 23rd-ranked North Carolina men's tennis team (11-1) extended their winning streak to six matches on Saturday evening, sweeping The Citadel (2-10) by a 7-0 count at Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center in the second half of Saturday's doubleheader.
Carolina controlled the match from the start, taking all three doubles matches to lock up the doubles point.
In singles, the Tar Heels collectively surrendered four games, none of which came in a first set.
Freshman Brayden Schnur, who moved up to No. 15 in the latest ITA singles rankings, earned a 6-0, 6-1 win over Elliott Sperr on court one. Junior Esben Hess-Olesen blanked Peter Bleach 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2, and fellow junior Oystein Steiro tallied a 6-0, 6-1 triumph.
In other singles results, freshman Jack Murray improved to 8-2 in dual-match singles competition with an easy 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 4. On court five, freshman Johan Skattum claimed a 6-0, 6-1 win, and sophomore Stuart DePaolo picked up a 6-0, 6-0 victory on court six.
The Tar Heels blanked Navy 7-0 in the first match of Saturday's doubleheader.
Carolina will take to the courts again when they face No. 1 Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio on Friday at 6 p.m. The Buckeyes currently boast a 181-game home winning streak, which is the longest such streak in Division I sports.
