CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The 23rd-ranked North Carolina men's tennis team (10-1) opened up Saturday's doubleheader by cruising to a 7-0 victory against Navy (4-4) at Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
The Tar Heels were dominant from the start, taking the doubles point behind strong play on courts one and three.
The Tar Heel duo of Brayden Schnur and Oystein Steiro defeated Thomas Pecor and Austin Jones by an 8-1 count at the No. 1 seed. James Coxe and Maik Ulrich clinched the point for Carolina at No. 3 with another 8-1 victory.
In singles, the back end of Carolina's lineup closed out the victory.
Sophomore Stuart DePaolo earned Carolina's first win at No. 6 over Navy's Tyler Tossavainen, 6-2, 6-0. Freshman Jack Murray also had no issues picking up straight-set triumph, defeating the Midshipmen's Blake Daniel 6-2, 6-0 on court four.
Johan Skattum, a freshman from Norway, sealed the match for the Tar Heels with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 5 over Krishna Jana.
In the remaining singles matches, 15th-ranked freshman Brayden Schnur won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1, and juniors Esben Hess-Olesen and Oystein Steiro picked up straight-set wins at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively.
The match was the first contest played outdoors at Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center this season.
Carolina will be back in action at 5 p.m. against The Citadel for the second half of the Saturday's doubleheader.
