Anderson, Neuenfeldt Named All-ACC Academic

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) -Kaitlyn Anderson and Paige Neuenfeldt were both named to the the 2013 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Volleyball team, as announced today by Commissioner John Swofford.

This is the third honor for Anderson, an exercise and sport science major from Ayden, N.C., and the second honor for Neuenfeldt, a business major from Birmingham, Mich. Neuenfeldt, along with Jovana Bjelica and Victoria McPherson, also earned All-ACC Honors, which were announced in December.

Duke senior libero Ali McCurdy was named the 2013 AACC Volleyball Scholar-Athlete of the Year and headlines the team.

A sociology major from Tampa, Fla., McCurdy was also named a CoSIDA Capital One Third Team All-American and CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-District III. On the court, McCurdy captained her team to the 2013 ACC Championship and was tabbed as the conference's Defensive Player of the Year for the third consecutive season - a total unmatched in league history. In addition, McCurdy was named an AVCA Honorable Mention All-America, AVCA All-East Coast Region and First Team All-ACC. McCurdy finished her career as the ACC's leader in career digs with 2,538.

Each of the ACC's 15 schools is represented on this year's All-ACC Academic Team, led by Duke with six honorees. Florida State has four student-athletes recognized, while Pitt and Virginia Tech both have three representatives. Georgia Tech, Maryland, Miami, North Carolina, Notre Dame and Syracuse all have two members. Closing out the team are Boston College, Clemson, NC State, Virginia and Wake Forest with one student-athlete apiece.

In addition to McCurdy, All-ACC Academic team members who also earned All-ACC honors this past season include Duke's Emiy Sklar, Jeme Obeime, Chelsea Cook and Maggie Deichmeister, Florida State's Nicole Walch and Katie Mosher, Maryland's Ashleigh Crutcher, Miami's Savanah Leaf and Emani Sims, North Carolina's Paige Neuenfeldt and Virginia Tech's Kathryn Caine.

Duke's McCurdy and Maryland's Cushman were named to the All-ACC Academic Team for the fourth time in their careers.

The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were established in September 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports. Candidates for the awards must have maintained a 3.0 grade point average for their career as well as a 3.0 for each of the last two semesters.

To be eligible for consideration for the All-ACC Academic Team, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.
