Carter, who was ranked fifth nationally in singles at the time, recorded a perfect 3-0 record at No. 2 singles for North Carolina during the event. She opened with a 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-2) victory over Vanderbilt's Courtney Colton, clinching the deciding point in the Tar Heels 4-3 win over the Commodores in the opening round of the 16-team tournament.
She came back the next day to notch a 6-2, 6-2, win over Duke's Chalena Scholl, however, the Blue Devils would prevail, 4-2, in the match.
On Sunday in a consolation match with No. 4 Georgia, Carter held on for a 6-2, 5-7, 10-4, victory over 10th-ranked Silvia Garcia.
Currently ranked eighth in the country with a 26-5 singles record, Carter and her Carolina teammates have a busy week ahead with four home matches, including the opening of Atlantic Coast Conference play. The Tar Heels will host non-league foes Norfolk State and East Carolina on Wednesday at 2 and 6:30 p.m., respectively.
No. 6 Carolina will then host Boston College on Friday at 2 p.m., and NC State on Sunday at 1 p.m. All matches will be played at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
