Four Earn All-ACC Academic for XC
Release: 02/14/2014

GREENSBORO, N.C, - The Atlantic Coast Conference announced the 2012 cross country All-ACC Academic teams Friday morning with four Tar Heels making the list.

Sophomore Lizzy Whelan, junior Annie LeHardy, senior Isaac Presson and junior Scott Morgan all earned All-ACC Academic honors for the 2012 cross country season. Presson earned ACC all-academic honors for the third time in his career and LeHardy earned ACC all-academic honors for the second time in her career.

"It's my opinion that the ACC is not only the best cross country conference in the NCAA, but the best academic conference, as well," North Carolina cross country coach Mark VanAlstyne said. "For these four athletes to be named All-ACC Academic is both a tremendous honor, given the level of competition, and a clear indication that we're moving towards our goal of being the best in the nation."

"I would like to congratulate all of our kids for the hard work they did in the classroom last semester," North Carolina track and field coach Harlis Meaders said. "We saw the overall GPA of each of our six teams increase to near or above 3.0. However, the achievements of these four student-athletes deserve special recognition as they have places themselves in a special category among the ACC and national student-athletes. The achievement is a result of their personal dedication to academic excellence combined with the culture provided by the coaching staff and the academic support services that not only encourages but pushes our kids to be their best. I could not be more proud of our kids, our coaches and our essential staff."

To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.

The award comes the same day as LeHardy and the women's cross country team earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors.
