Carolina Suffers 94-91 Setback At Georgia Tech
Release: 02/06/2014
ATLANTA - No. 13/11 North Carolina came up just short in a 94-91 loss at Georgia Tech on Thursday from the McCamish Pavillion.

North Carolina (17-6, 5-4 ACC) received a balanced attack with three players scoring at least 20 points. Diamond DeShields had 22 points, nine rebounds and five assists before fouling out with 2:44 left. Allisha Gray notched her third double-double of the year with 20 points and 11 rebounds, and Danielle Butts set a new career high with 20 points.

Tyannua Marshall scored 32 points to set Georgia Tech's scoring record, while Kaela Davis had 20 points.

North Carolina trailed by seven points with 1:51 left, but pieced together eight-straight points to take a 90-89 lead with 36 seconds to go.

Davis gave Tech the lead right back, but UNC's Latifah Coleman had the opportunity to tie the game with a pair of free throws with six seconds left. She missed the first of two foul shots, but made the second to make it 92-91 in favor of the Yellow Jackets.

Carolina nearly stole the inbounds pass as Butts had her hand on the ball for a brief second, but Marshall came up with the loose ball and made two free throws to ice the victory and become Georgia Tech's all-time leading scorer.

An entertaining first half saw four lead changes, two ties and Carolina make a late push to take a slim, 44-43, lead at intermission.

The Yellow Jackets took their largest lead of the first half, 36-27, on a jumper from Marshall at the 7:45 mark. She led Tech with 13 points in the opening stanza.

North Carolina got right back in the game with a 12-0 run, led by DeShields' eight of her 17 first-half points, erasing an eight-point deficit that turned into a 43-39 advantage.

North Carolina visits No. 5 Duke on Monday at 7 p.m., on ESPN2.
