MIAMI BEACH, FLA. - North Carolina golfer Bailey Patrick was the runner-up at the South Beach International Amateur which concluded Sunday. Patrick, a junior from Charlotte, N.C., fired a 3-under-par 280 total with rounds of 71-72-69-68, finishing just two strokes behind champion Greg Eason who fired a 5-under 278 total.
"It was great to be back in contention to win, and I loved playing under pressure again after taking some time off," says Patrick. "I'm looking forward to building off of this good showing when our spring season begins in Puerto Rico."
The first two rounds of the 72-hole event were played at Miami Beach Golf Club (par 71) and Normandy Shores Golf Club (par 70). Following the second round, the field was cut from 99 players to the top 72, including ties, and the final two rounds were played at the Miami Beach Golf Club.
Patrick enjoyed a very impressive fall campaign for the Tar Heels, winning one tournament and carding four top-25 finishes in four events. Patrick tied for individual medalist honors at the Carpet Capital Collegiate, the first event of the year. He also tied for 11th place at the Rod Myers Invitational, tied for 16th at the Bridgestone Golf Collegiate, where the Tar Heels took home the team title, and tied for 23rd at the Tar Heel Intercollegiate.
As Patrick noted, the Tar Heels kick off their spring campaign at the Puerto Rico Classic which will be played Feb. 23-25 in Rio Grande.
