DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. - Four University of North Carolina golfers, Casey Grice, Meaghan Francella, Catherine O'Donnell and Allie White, have completed fourth-round play at the LPGA Tour's Final Qualifying Tournament and fallen short of the 72-hole cut to continue play through tomorrow. Play continues through Sunday at LPGA International, Jones and Hills courses.
Grice, a two-time All-ACC performer (2012, 2013) for the Tar Heels, fired a solid 1-over 73 in the fourth round on the Hills course to end with a 7-over 295 total. White finished the best out of the four Saturday with an even-par 72 but fell short with an 8-over 296 total on the Hills course. With a 4-over 76 in the fourth round, Francella finished at 12-over with a 300 total on the Hills course. White is a three-time National Golf Coaches Association All-America Scholar (2009, 2011, 2012), and Francella finished her college career as a two-time All-ACC selection (2003, 2004) at Carolina and the 2003 ACC Champion and the 2004 NCAA East Regional Champion. O'Donnell, a four-time All-ACC performer (2009-2012), missed the 72-hole cut after shooting a 4-over 76 with a 307 total on the Jones course.
The 90-hole event is being played at LPGA International, where 153 players played the Jones (par 72, 6,389 yards) and Hills (par 72, 6,468 yards) courses twice, hoping to be among the top-70 and ties to advance to the final round. The final cut was made at 3-over or better. After Sunday's final round, the top-20 finishers will earn Category 12 status for the 2014 LPGA Tour season, while those who finish 21st through 45th and ties will earn Category 17.
