DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. - Four University of North Carolina golfers, Casey Grice, Meaghan Francella, Catherine O'Donnell and Allie White, began play Wednesday at the LPGA Tour's Final Qualifying Tournament. Action takes place Dec. 4-8 at LPGA International, Jones and Hills courses.
Francella and Grice both fired an even par 72 on the Jones course and are tied for 48th place. Francella, a two-time All-ACC selection (2003, 2004) at Carolina was the 2003 ACC Champion and the 2004 NCAA East Regional Champion while Grice was also a two-time All-ACC performer (2012, 2013) for the Tar Heels. White, a three-time National Golf Coaches Association All-America Scholar (2009, 2011, 2012), carded a 4-over-par 76 on the Jones course and is tied for 120th place. O'Donnell, a four-time All-ACC performer (2009-2012), shot a 7-over 79 on the Hills course and is tied for 148th place.
White, Grice and Francella will all play the Hills course on Thursday and all begin play off the #1 tee. White tees off at 8 a.m. while Grice starts at 9 a.m. and Francella begins play at 9:10 a.m. O'Donnell will play the Jones course, teeing off at 8:10 a.m. off the #1 tee.The 90-hole event is being played at LPGA International, where 153 players will play the Jones (par 72, 6,389 yards) and Hills (par 72, 6,468 yards) courses twice, hoping to be among the top-70 and ties to advance to Sunday. After Sunday's final round, the top-20 finishers will earn Category 12 status for the 2014 LPGA Tour season, while those who finish 21st through 45th and ties will earn Category 17.
