WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Victoria McPherson posted 13 kills and seven blocks to lead North Carolina to a 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-17) sweep of Wake Forest.
Improving to 27-3, 16-3 ACC, the Tar Heels now have the most wins since the 2002 ACC championship squad went 32-4.
"This was a really important win for us today to get on the road," Sagula said. "Wake Forest always has a challenging offense to defend, and I think we did a good job of that today. We competed hard and responded well to the pressure of our final two matches."
McPherson, who finished with a solid .333 attack, nearly tied her career highs of 14 kills and eight blocks.
"Victoria was unbelievable for us today. She played phenomenal here last year in her break out match, and she was even more impressive here today. It was a really great day for her," Sagula said.
Carolina took set one 25-19 behind four kills apiece from Victoria McPherson and Hayley McCorkle. Even at 7-7 early in the frame, the Tar Heels started pulling away, leading by eight at one point. Bjelica added two kills, four digs and a block for the Tar Heels, who hit a strong .353 through the set.
McPherson had seven kills and four blocks to give UNC the 25-18 win in set two. Bjeclia had three kills with three blocks, and Paige Neuenfeldt added another three blocks as Carolina hit over .300 again.
Wake Forest jumped out to a 3-0 lead in set three, but after tying the set at 13-13, Carolina notched five straight points to go up 18-13 and take the set, 25-17. Bjelica tacked on four more kills and McPherson had two final kills and two blocks for UNC.
