"Roy Williams always talks about never sacrificing character in the recruiting process. Our program will benefit from the high character and high level of tennis that Marika and Cassandra will bring with them to campus."
Ranked as high as 59th in the ITF Juniors, Akkerman is rated the top Canadian junior player that has competed in the highest level of Junior tennis tournaments in the world.
She played in the US Open, French Open and Wimbledon Junior events in 2013. Akkerman qualified for the US Open Juniors Main Draw in 2012.
Akkerman won the Copa Cariari ITF in Costa Rica in both 2011 and 2012.
Vazquez is currently ranked 6th in the nation by tennisrecruiting.net, and is listed as a blue chip recruit.
She competed at the 2013 US Open, winning two rounds in qualifying to earn a spot in the main draw.
Vazquez has won a handful of events over the last two seasons, including both singles and doubles draws at the ITF Dominican Republic in 2013.
In 2012, she won her first ITF events in both singles and doubles in Monterrey, Mexico. Vazquez also won an ITF singles tournament in the Bahamas and brought home both singles and doubles titles at the Texas Grand Slam that year.
Vazquez has been invited to the Federation Cup in Claremont, Ca., each of the last three years.
