Roy Williams said Thursday afternoon that there has been no change in the status of P.J. Hairston and Leslie McDonald, meaning they will not travel to Connecticut with the team for the Hall of Fame Tipoff Classic. Carolina faces Richmond on Saturday at noon and plays either the winner or the loser of the Fairfield-Louisville game on Sunday.
"Yes," Williams said when asked if the choice to leave them at home was his decision.
UNC and the NCAA are working together to resolve ongoing eligibility issues regarding the two players. The duo have also sat out Carolina's first three games. In their absence, the Tar Heels have started a backcourt of Nate Britt and Marcus Paige, with J.P. Tokoto at the small forward spot, James Michael McAdoo at power forward, and Joel James at center.
Williams said Monday at his radio show that he's adapted the way he handles practice situations based on the availability (or lack thereof) of Hairston and McDonald.
