CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Paige Neuenfeldt posted 11 kills and four blocks to lead Carolina to a 3-0 sweep (25-15, 25-15, 25-20) over Georgia Tech Sunday.
The Tar Heels improved to 22-3 and 11-3 in conference play as Leigh Andrew posted 10 kills with 11 digs for her fifth double-double of the year, and Jovana Bjelica tallied 13 kills. Carolina hit over .500 in sets one and two and finished the match with a solid .388 team attack.
"I'm really excited for the team today," head coach Joe Sagula said. "They've been through some ups and downs through the last few matches, and I wanted them to feel good about making such good efforts and getting positive results.
"Our passing was better, our defense was inspired, our blocking was solid, and our hitting percentages in the first two sets was phenomenal. I think they needed to feel what that was like to go forward and to be able to build confidence for the next few matches," Sagula said.
Carolina hit an impressive .538 through the opening frame to make an early statement and take a decisive 25-15 win. Neuenfeldt and Bjelica combined for eight kills, and Leigh Andrew added another three.
The second set was another impressive offensive attack, as the Tar Heels hit .632 behind another four kills apiece from Bjelica and Neuenfeldt, who each also posted an ace and combined for three blocks.
Andrew and Bjelica each posted five more kills as UNC wrapped up the match with a 25-20 set three win. Andrew also added seven digs and a block while Victoria McPherson had two kills with three blocks for the Tar Heels.
