CARY, N.C. - North Carolina sophomore Brett Clark extended his dominant run at the ITA Carolina Regional on Sunday, taking out Elon's Cameron Silverman in the semifinals of the singles draw at Cary Tennis Park. With the win, Clark became the fourth Carolina player to advance to the finals at the ITA Carolina Regional in five years.
The 14th-seeded Tar Heel sophomore made quick work of the 38th-ranked and 5th-seeded Silverman, cruising to a 6-2, 6-4 victory. Clark has now strung together consecutive wins against Top 5 seeds.
In doubles play, both Carolina doubles teams suffered narrow defeats in the quarterfinal round.
The 7th-seeded Carolina duo of Brett Clark and Ronnie Schneider battled Duke's top-seeded tandem of Michael Redlicki and Jason Tahir to a tiebreaker before ultimately falling 8-7(6).
Monday's schedule features the final round of the singles and doubles draws.
Brett Clark will square off against East Carolina's 7th-seeded and 87th-ranked Joran Vliegen in the singles final on Monday at 10 a.m. The winner will earn a spot in the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, Nov. 7-10, at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.
