UNC Swimmers & Divers Sweep TCU In Dual Meet Action
Release: 10/19/2013

FORT WORTH, TEXAS - The North Carolina men's and women's swimming and diving teams continued their Fall Break trip to the Lone Star State on Saturday afternoon as they defeated TCU in dual meet action.  The Tar Heel men defeated the Horned Frogs 188-109 while the women triumphed over TCU 200-97 at the University Recreation Center.

Sophomore Emma Nunn won three individual events for Carolina to lead the Tar Heel women to victory while freshman diver Jack Nyquist joined with swimmers Brad Dillon, Eugene Tee and Dominick Glavich to each win a pair of individual events on the men's side.  Junior Natalie Ritter was also a two-event winner for the Tar Heel women, sweeping both diving events.

"We had a great meet at TCU at noon today.  Our men faced a TCU team with considerable talent and we swam a fairly standard lineup with a little variety," said UNC head coach Rich DeSelm.  "We had 14 wins on the day and of special note our divers were extremely successful going, 1-2-4 on both boards.  With a six-lane pool, we didn't get as many swims during the meet as normal but we spread the responsibility around and our men did a great job."

"On the women's side we utilized our Dallas Classic swimmers who compete this evening at SMU sparingly.  Our women are taking pride in having a considerable number of competitions in three days," DeSelm explained.  "We have eight swimmers and a diver who are competing in the Dallas Classic again tonight and they had fairly minimal duties in this meet. We gave considerable responsibility to the other 11 swimmers and two divers who made up the travel squad for this trip.  We had 15 winners on the women's side.  Emma Nunn stood out in winning the 200 fly, the 500 free and the 200 IM."

"On the men's side, we had three different swimmers - senior Brad Dillon, sophomore Dominick Glavich and freshman Eugene Tee - each win two individual events," said DeSelm.  "And in both meets, the divers competed very well, giving us a lot of flexibility and helping us compile comfortable team margins.  The men went 1-2-4 in both events and the women took 1-2-3 on both boards."

"Our coaching staff is very proud of both teams for the way they have conducted themselves on this trip," DeSelm added. " Our student-athletes have faced a very full three days of competing and traveling in multiple cities.  We met our goals for this trip, which include meeting a powerhouse program in the University of Texas, facing multiple events on three successive days and dealing with the logistics of extensive travel.  This was all great experience for championship season at the end of the year."

With the victories, the UNC men improved to 2-2 on the season while the women are now 5-1 in dual meet action.  Next up for the Tar Heels is the University of Louisville which visits Chapel Hill for a two-day dual meet on November 1st and 2nd.
