CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - North Carolina head men's golf coach Andrew Sapp will be inducted into Millbrook High School's Hall of Fame tonight. The induction will take place at halftime of the Millbrook-Wakefield football game.
Sapp, is in his third year as head coach of Carolina's men's golf team after being the head coach at Michigan for nine years. He played on the Tar Heel golf team 1991-93. Last year, Carolina captured two team titles and was the runner-up twice. Sapp's first win as the Tar Heel head coach came at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate. Prior to that win, Carolina was the runner-up at the Tar Heel Intercollegiate and the Rod Myers Invitational. Then last spring, the Tar Heels won the Irish Creek Collegiate. So far this fall, the Tar Heels have three top-five finishes.
The individuals being inducted are: Andrew Sapp (a 1989 graduate), an NCHSAA state champion golfer and the current University of North Carolina golf coach; Bucky Brooks (1989), a five-year NFL wide receiver and defensive back and a football standout at UNC; Larry Harrington (1989), a three-time state hurdles champion; Michelle Massey (2002), a four-year soccer starter at N.C. State; Kenny Garrett (1960), a four-sport letterman who played football at Guilford College; Casey Prince (1997), a four-year starting soccer keeper; Andy Schmidt (1988), a football and track standout who is involved in wheelchair athletics after being paralyzed in a diving accident; Whitey Wade (1957), a four-year, three sport athlete; and Danny Wilkins (1972), coach of boys and girls NCHSAA championship soccer teams at Millbrook.
In addition, Millbrook is inducting its undefeated 1989 girls soccer state champions and its 1994 boys state soccer champions. Two families are also being inducted, the Lortz family and the Horwitz family.
