Navy Sweeps Fall World Series
Release: 10/13/2013

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. --- Buoyed by a four run first inning and a three run second, the Navy team took Sunday's game over the Blue team by a 12-2 margin, sweeping all six games of the 2013 Fall World Series to be crowned the FWS Champions.

Junior right-hander Luis Paula took the mound for the Navy team, posting a solid six-inning outing, allowing just two runs on four hits.

In the top of the first, the Navy team sent all nine batters to the plate to rack up four early runs off of the Blue team's left-handed freshman Thomas Rogers.

Three singles loaded the bases for catcher Korey Dunbar, who doubled to clear them and put the Navy team up by three.

One more single by right fielder Matt Rubino added the fourth run of the inning for the Navy team.

After Paula retired the side in the bottom of the inning, the Navy team picked up right where they left off in the top of the second.

A single, a walk and an error once again loaded the bases for the Navy team, this time for centerfielder Skye Bolt. Rogers walked his second batter of the inning to put the Navy team up 5-0 and keep the bases loaded.

A sacrifice fly by Dunbar and a groundout by Rubino added two more to bring the score to 7-0 in favor of Navy.

The Blue team would try to start chipping away at the deficit with a run of its own as second baseman Wood Myers scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the third.

But four more runs for the Navy team split between the fourth and fifth innings put them ahead by 10 before Joe Dudek recorded a solo homerun in the bottom of the sixth.

Two walks followed by a single from Michael Massardo in the top of the seventh scored the last run of the game and secured the Navy team's 12-2 victory in the final game of this year's Fall World Series.
