WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The North Carolina men's tennis team continued their stellar play at the Wake Forest Invitational, where senior Nelson Vick and sophomore Brett Clark both advanced to the finals in the A2 singles draw at the Wake Forest Tennis Center on Saturday. In doubles, the top-seeded pair of Esben Hess-Olesen and Brett Clark cruised to the finals in the A draw.
Clark notched the highest-ranked victory of his young career with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory over UNC-Wilmington's 33rd-ranked Rafael Aita to advance to the finals in the A2 singles draw. Fellow Tar Heel Nelson Vick dismissed Wake Forest's Pedro Dumont 6-2, 6-2 in the other A2 singles semifinal.
The tournament schedule for Sunday will likely be altered to prevent the North Carolina teammates from squaring off in the final.
In doubles play, the Tar Heel duo of Esben Hess-Olesen and Brett Clark continued to assert their dominance with an 8-6 win over Duke's T.J. Pura and Daniel Mccall in the A doubles quarterfinals. The pair proceeded to defeat UNC-Greensboro's Ahmet Sarioglu and Daniel Mack 8-3 to advance to the A doubles final.
In other action, Nelson Vick and Stuart DePaolo took an 8-3 loss at the hands of UNC-Wilmington in the A doubles draw, 28th-ranked Esben Hess-Olesen fell in a the A1 singles semifinals to Wake Forest's Max Kan and sophomore Stuart DePaolo was edged 6-4, 6-4 in the B1 singles draw semifinals.
Sunday's schedule features finals matches for all singles and doubles flights. The matchups are TBD.
