CHAPEL HILL --- Five home dates at Carmichael Arena highlight the 2013-14 University of North Carolina wrestling schedule, head coach C.D. Mock announced this week. The Tar Heels host Stanford on Jan. 18 to open the home slate, with other home duals against Maryland, Navy, Duke, Pittsburgh and Southern Illinois leading into the postseason.
Carolina, which finished 22nd at the 2013 NCAA Championships behind All-America Evan Henderson, returns five NCAA qualifiers and opens the regular season on Sunday, Nov. 10, with the Hokie Duals. The newly formatted event will feature duals against Wisconsin, Old Dominion and Hofstra, with the Wolfpack Open following on Nov. 17.
The Tar Heels return to dual action on Nov. 30 against Binghamption, Central Michigan and Michigan State in the Northeast Duals in Troy, N.Y. The Reno Invitational Dec. 22 and the Southern Scuffle on Jan. 1-2 round out the tournament portion of the schedule before UNC travles to Pittsburgh for the Pittsburgh Duals.
Mock's squad will open Atlantic Coast Conference action at Virginia Tech on Jan. 17, with the team returning to Blacksburg March 8 for the ACC Championships.
Oklahoma City will host the 2014 NCAA Championships March 20-22.
The first chance for fans to see the Tar Heels will be Monday, Oct. 7, at noon on campus as the team holds its Rumble In The Pit wrestle-off event.
