NEW ORLEANS – In Tuesday's latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) national poll, the North Carolina Tar Heel men's squad was voted No. 13 in the nation after their statement win at the Virginia/Panorama Farms Invitational this past weekend.
The Tar Heels had recevied votes on previous occasions only to make their presence known in the national rankings for the first time this season in the Oct. 1st release. The only men's Atlantic Coast Conference team ranked higher than Carolina in this week's poll is No. 10 Syracuse. Other ranked men's ACC include No. 24 (tied) Virginia and No. 26 Florida State. NC State's men's team dropped out of the national rankings but still received votes along with Duke and Virginia Tech.
On Monday, Carolina was voted the top team in the Southeast Region after beating the previous leaders Virginia and Eastern Kentucky at the Virginia/Panorama Farms meet.
The Tar Heels are training and resting before their next competition at the Wisconsin Invitational on Oct. 19th. Both the men's and women's teams will face multiple ranked teams at the contest.
