Nelson To Miss Remainder Of Season Due To Stress Fracture
Release: 09/26/2013

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -  UNC volleyball head coach Joe Sagula announced Thursday that redshirt junior Chaniel Nelson will be out for the remainder of the 2013 season due to a stress fracture in her tibia.

Nelson has not played yet in 2013 due to the injury. She will have surgery to address the stress fracture in October and will be out the remainder of this season.

"We're disappointed for Chaniel to have this injury and miss out on this season, but we know that she'll return next year as a key member of our team," Sagula said. "Chaniel has been a leader on the team in her three years so far at Carolina, and we're excited to see the impact she will continue to have off the court this season and then as a senior in her final season next year."

After redshirting her freshman season, Nelson has tallied 607 kills and 242 blocks in two seasons. She is a two-time All-ACC selection and was an AVCA All-America Honorable Mention and an AVCA All-East Region honoree as a redshirt freshman.
