Women Golfers in 6th After Day Two in Mason Rudolph

FRANLIN, TENN. - The North Carolina women's golf team recorded a day two score of a 13-over-par 589 after a round two score of 6-over 294 to put them in 6th place going into final day of the Mason Rudolph Championship.  Jackie Chang led the Tar Heels with a 2-under-par 70 in round two.

"The golf course played tougher today due to the heavy rain overnight.  However, I felt that the team played well," stated head coach Jan Mann about the second day for the Tar Heels.  "We did not have a particularly good start, but were able to come back and finish strong.  It was definitely a better finish than yesterday!"

Chang, a senior from Scottsdale, Ariz., fired a 2-under 70 in the second round for a two-day total of 1-over 145.  Chang is currently tied for 12th place. Tied for 27th place, sophomore Elizabeth Mallett and senior Katherine Perry stand at 3-over 147 after day two. Mallett, from Sutton Coldfield, England, recorded a 1-over 73 to end round two.  Perry, the senior from Cary, N.C., shot three birdies to solidify her round two score of a 2-over 74.  Leslie Cloots registered a 8-over 80 in round two to be tied for 51st place.  The freshman from Antwerp, Belgium, Cloots finished day two 9-over 153. The final Tar Heel team competitor is sophomore Samantha Marks. Marks, from Maitland, Fla., ended day two 10-over 154 after a 5-over 77 in round two.  North Carolina registered one individual Tar Heel, junior Maia Schechter.  Schechter, from Takoma Park, Md., registered a round two score of 3-over-par 75 for two-day total of a 8-over 152.

UCLA took the lead after round two with a combined 3-under-par 573.  Arizona State is in second with a 2-over 278 two-day score.  In third place is N.C. State with a 7-over 583.  Tied for fourth place are Vanderbilt and Duke, each with a 9-over 585. North Carolina shot a 13-over to secure a sixth place spot after day two.  In seventh place, Auburn shot a 15-over 591.  Virginia takes eighth place with a 17-over 593.

Virginia's Elizabeth Brightwell leads the field going into day three with a 5-under-par 139.  Tied for second place is UCLA's Erynne Lee and N.C. State's Augusta James each at a 3-under 141. Michigan State's Allyssa Ferrell, UCLA's Alison Lee, Alabama's Stephanie Meadow, and Baylor's Hayley Davis are tied for fourth ending day two. Duke's Aleja Cangrejo stands in eighth place with a 1-under 143.

The Mason Rudolph Championship, a three-day tournament to be played through Sunday, is a 54-hole event on the Vanderbilt Legends Club North Course.  The course has a par-72, 6,337-yard layout.  Live scoring is available at GoHeels.com.
