UNC Trounces Cincy, Claims Bobcat Invitational Title
Release: 09/07/2013

ATHENS, Ohio - No. 24 UNC finished off another 3-0 weekend with a 3-0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-17) sweep of Cincinnati Saturday afternoon, claiming the Bobcat Invitational as the Tar Heels improved to 6-0 for the season.

In her first start for Carolina, redshirt freshman Hayley McCorkle posted seven kills and a block, and Leigh Andrew added eight kills, five digs and a block in a match won with contributions from 16 different Tar Heels.

"The way we finished this tournament, winning 3-0, is a great accomplishment for this team," head coach Joe Sagula said. "This was such a great team effort, with 16 different players contributing. It was exciting to see some of our younger players get a chance on the court and get into some real competition."

"It's exciting to take this match and the great team effort we had throughout the entire weekend and work hard this week as we look forward to our next weekend at home," Sagula said.

North Carolina opened the match with a decisive 25-14 set win, led by Andrew's four kills and an ace. The Tar Heels tallied a .400 team hitting percentage while limiting the Bearcats to just .029 and forcing eight Cincinnati errors.

Solid contributions from the Tar Heel bench throughout the second set, including two kills and two digs from Tatiana Durr., gave UNC the 25-set two victory. Kayla Berringer added three kills, and Paige Neuenfeldt posted four blocks with a kill as UNC kept the Cincinnati offense to a -.118 team attack.

The Tar Heels carried their momentum through the third set, finishing the sweep with a 25-17 win. Taylor Treacy brought down five kills and two blocks while hitting .500 that set, and Bjelica added three kills and a block for Carolina.

After going 3-0 this weekend, Carolina claims the tournament team title. Ece Taner was named the tournament MVP, and Jovana Bjelica was named to the all-tournament team.
