SKILLMAN, NJ (Sept. 6) - College tennis resumes this fall as the nation's top players are set to compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) first national event of the 2013-14 season, as selections for the ITA Men's All-American Championships have been announced by the ITA. In addition to the All-American field, the 2013 ITA Division I Preseason Rankings have also been announced.
University of North Carolina men's tennis players have received multiple invitations to the All-American Championships in Tulsa.
Junior Esben Hess-Olesen will play in the main draw of singles while senior Nelson Vick and freshman Ronnie Schneider will compete in the qualifying singles tournament. UNC had two doubles teams nab spots in the qualifying doubles team – junior Esben Hess-Olesen and sophomore Brett Clark as well as senior Nelson Vick and junior Oystein Steiro.
Six Tar Heels have earned spots in the pre-qualifying singles tournament – sophomore Brett Clark, junior Oystein Steiro, sophomore Stuart DePaolo, senior Maik Ulrich, freshman Jack Murray and freshman Johan Skattum.
For the seventh straight year, the University of Tulsa will be the site of the ITA Men's All-American Championships. The tournament kicks off with prequalifying matches starting on Sept. 28, while the main draw is set to begin on Oct. 3.
The preseason ITA singles and doubles rankings were also announced on Friday. Among upperclass singles players, junior Esben Hess-Olesen is ranked 28th and senior Nelson Vick is ranked 92nd. The doubles team of Hess-Olesen and Brett Clark is rated 45th.
A newcomer/freshman singles ranking includes the Top 10 first-year players in the country. UNC's Brayden Schnur is rnaked third on that list while Ronnie Schneider is rated fifth.
