CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Former Carolina golfer Casey Grice tied for 13th place at the LPGA Qualifying Tournament Stage I and thus advances to Stage II of the LPGA Qualifying Tournament.
Grice, a recent graduate who was a starter for the Tar Heels the last three years, fired an even par 288 total with rounds of 68-76-73-71 to finish in a tie for 13th place. The 72-holes of the LPGA Qualifying Tournament Stage I was played at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif., on the Dinah Shore course (par 72, 6,442 yards) and the Palmer course (par 72, 6,406 yards). The top 100 finishers including ties advance on to the LPGA Qualifying Tournament Stage II which will be played Oct. 8-11 at Plantation Golf and Country Club in Venice, Fla., on the Panther and Bobcat courses.
Grice, a 2012 and 2013 All-ACC performer, led the team last year with a 73.27 stroke average. She was a starter in all 10 of Carolina's tournaments last year, carding seven top-20 and nine top-30 finishes. Grice was selected an honorable mention All-America last year by both Golfweek and the Women's Golf Coaches Association.
