Men's Soccer Gets Training Underway
Release: 08/15/2013
CHAPEL HILL - The North Carolina men's soccer team got its pre-season training underway this week in advance of its first exhibition match coming this Saturday against Elon in Greensboro, N.C.

The Tar Heels have enjoyed unprecedented success in recent years, reaching the College Cup in four of the last five seasons. The only season that didn't end up in the Final Four of men's soccer was a quarterfinal appearance in 2012, falling 1-0 to eventual national champion Indiana.

Head coach Carlos Somoano, who owns a staggering 37-6-6 career record in two seasons, will lean on the leadership of team captains Rob Lovejoy and Boyd Okwuonu as the squad progresses through the early days of the 2013 season.

The 2012 ACC regular season champions will play Elon this Saturday at Greensboro's Bryan Park beginning at 7 p.m.

The fourth-ranked Heels will then take on Michigan State and Indiana in exhibition tilts on Thursday, Aug. 22 and Saturday, Aug. 24 in Fort Wayne, Ind.

The regular season gets underway with a pair of home dates during the Carolina Nike Classic. UNC will host Monmouth on Friday, Aug. 30 at 7:30 p.m., and two days later Coastal Carolina comes to town for a 7 p.m., contest on Sunday, Sept. 1.
