Chang To Play In U.S. Women’s Amateur

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - University of North Carolina golfer Jackie Chang will be playing in the 113th U.S. Women's Amateur which will be played August 5-11 at The Country Club in Charleston in Charleston, S.C.  Chang will begin play Monday at 8:30 a.m. off the 10th tee.

Chang, a rising senior for the Tar Heels, was selected to the 2013 All-ACC team has been a three-year starter for Carolina.  She played in all 10 of the Tar Heels' tournaments this year and has carded eight top-30 finishes.  Her top performances came at the NCAA East Regional and the UCF Challenge where she tied for eighth place.  She tied for ninth at the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational and tied for 14th at both the Liz Murphey Fall Preview and the Cougar Classic.  Chang's other top-30 finishes came at the SunTrust Gator Invitational where she tied for 20th, the Mason Rudolph Championship where she tied for 23rd and the ACC Championships where she tied for 28th.  She tied for 32nd place at both the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate and the Bryan National Collegiate.

Chang was second on the team with a 73.90 stroke average.  She has carded five even par rounds and four under-par rounds, two in the 60s.  Her low round was a 4-under-par 68 fired in the first round of the NCAA East Regional played at Auburn University Club. 

This is the first time The Country Club of Charleston has hosted the U.S. Women's Amateur or any USGA event.  Two rounds of stroke place will be played Monday and Tuesday.  Match play begins on Wednesday and continues through Sunday with a 36-hole championship final match.
