CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - University of North Carolina golfer Maia Schechter was selected to the 2013 Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-America Scholar team. This is Schechter's first appearance on the team.
Schechter, a rising junior from Takoma Park, Md., played in nine of Carolina's tournaments this year, competing in three as an individual. Her top performance came at the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational where she finished in sixth place and helped lead the Tar Heels to the team title. Schechter tied for 20th at the SunTrust Gator Invitational, competing as an individual, and tied for 40th at the Liz Murphey Fall Preview. She tied for 41st at the ACC Championships, tied for 50th at the Bryan National Collegiate, playing as an individual, and tied for 51st at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate. In her other events, Schechter tied for 71st at the Mason Rudolph Championship and tied for 73rd at the UCF Challenge, competing as an individual. She also placed 109th at the NCAA East Regional.
Schechter finished the year with a 77.52 stroke average. She carded one under-par round and one even par round. Her low round of 1-under 71 came in the second round of the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational.
