Four Tar Heels Named All-America

CHAPEL HILL - Four University of North Carolina women's lacrosse players earned All-America honors and another grabbed Freshman All-America accolades in the Synapse Sports 2013 postseason honors, released on Tuesday.

Midfielder Kara Cannizzaro took first-team All-America honors.  Attacker Abbey Friend, midfielder Emily Garrity and defender Sloane Serpe all were on the second team.  Attacker Aly Messinger was named to the All-Rookie Team.

Individual honors went to Florida's Mikey Meagher (Goalie of the Year), Syracuse's Becca Block (Defender of the Year), Maryland's Katie Schwarzmann (Midfielder of the Year), Alex Aust (Attacker of the Year) and Taylor Cummings (Rookie of the Year), Northwestern's Christy Turner (Unsung Hero of the Year) and Stony Brook's Joe Spallina (Coach of the Year).

The Tar Heels will host Virginia in the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Fetzer Field.
