CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Casey Grice, a junior on North Carolina's women's golf team, shot an 8-over 79 in the first round of the North Texas LPGA Shootout Thursday. Grice had two birdies and five bogeys in the round and double bogeyed her last hole. She is tied for 139th place after the first round.
"Overall had a really solid day on the course," Grice said. "I was very happy with how I played other than a rough finish, but it was a very fun experience, and I cannot wait to get back out on the course tomorrow."
Caroline Masson, a German golfer in her rookie year, is leading the tournament. She fired a 7-under 64 in the first round and holds a two-stroke lead over the second place golfer. Golfers placing 70th or better advance to the third round. Grice is not projected to make this cut.
The second round of the 72-hole event will be April 26 at Las Colinas Country Club in Irving, Tex., a par 71, 6,410-yard layout.
Grice, a native of College Station, Texas, played high school golf at A&M Consolidated. She has carded four top-10 and seven top-20 finishes for Carolina this year and has led the Tar Heels to three team titles as well.
