The UNC field hockey team celebrated the end of spring practice and welcomed former players back to Francis E. Henry Stadium Saturday for the annual Alumni Game.
The current Carolina team took on a squad of former players that included a wide range of years, from some who finished their eligibility with the 2012 season to some who played on coach Karen Shelton's first UNC teams in the early '80s. The dramatic contest went down to the wire, and a good time was had by all.
"The Alumni Game is a highlight of the spring for us," Shelton said. "We work hard in our spring training, and by the time the Alumni Game comes along all that is behind us and it's time to have some fun. It's always great to see the former players who come back. In many cases we've seen them during the year at our games or other events, but having them back out on the field with us is a lot of fun. Once a Tar Heel, always a Tar Heel!"
