CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Three Tar Heel student-athletes were honored Thursday afternoon at the annual Chancellor's Awards for Excellence in Academics and Student Activities and Leadership. Jonathan Cooper, Scott Goodwin and Hans Peng were among outstanding UNC students recognized at the ceremony, which was held in the Great Hall in the Frank Porter Graham Student Union.
Cooper, a senior from Wilmington, N.C. and a member of the football team, received the Jim Tatum Memorial Award, which is presented to "the varsity intercollegiate athlete who has performed with distinction in his or her sport and who has contributed to the University community through constructive participation in co-curricular activities."
Goodwin, a senior from Raleigh, N.C., and a member of the men's soccer team, received the I.R. Hagadorn Award, which is presented to the "outstanding rising senior biology major with the highest GPA in biology courses who has demonstrated excellence and dedication in undergraduate research."
Peng, a senior from Katy, Texas, and a member of the men's fencing team, received the Roger A. Davis Memorial Award, which is presented by the Residence Hall Association to the "undergraduate judged to have given outstanding service to the University, especially through residence hall leadership."
