Tar Heels Fall To #19 Clemson 6-1
Release: 04/07/2013

CLEMSON, S.C. - Despite taking the doubles point and sending three singles matches to three sets, North Carolina (8-11, 1-5 ACC) was unable notch their second ACC victory on Sunday, falling to No. 19 Clemson (15-4, 4-2 ACC) 6-1 in men's tennis action at Hoke Sloan Tennis Center.

The Tar Heels got off to a promising start by taking two of the three doubles matches.

The duo of Esben Hess-Olesen and Brett Clark tallied Carolina's first doubles win, defeating Ayrton Wibowo and Zachary Rigsby of Clemson 8-4 at the No. 3 spot. The Tar Heels clinched the point behind a strong performance from William Parker and Nelson Vick at No. 1, who took out the 17th-ranked pairing of Yannick Maden and Dominique Maden by a count of 8-6.

The Tigers countered by sweeping the singles matches, taking a number of them by slim margins.

Dominique Maden started the run for Clemson by downing William Parker in straight sets at the No. 4 seed, 6-1, 6-1. Hunter Harrington maintained the Tiger's momentum with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Nelson Vick at the No. 2 spot.

The Tar Heels put up a strong fight in the remaining matches.

At No. 6 singles, Carolina's Stuart DePaolo fell in three sets to Austin Ansari, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1.

Clemson's #26 Yannick Maden prevailed over #38 Esben Hess-Olesen at the No. 1 seed by a score of 6-3, 7-6 (7-4), clinching the win for the Tigers in a second-set tiebreaker.

At the No. 5 spot, Zachary Rigsby edged Oystein Steiro by a count of 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 7-6 (7-5), and in the last match to finish, Gerardo Meza of Clemson rallied to defeat freshman Brett Clark in another three-setter, 6-7 (2-7), 7-5, 6-4.

The Tar Heels will return home to play host to No. 52 Miami on Friday at Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center. The match is scheduled for 3 p.m.
