CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- No. 1 North Carolina will take to the road Wednesday when the Tar Heels travel to Wilmington for a 6 p.m. contest against UNC Wilmington.
The Tar Heels will be looking to bounce back from their second loss of the season on Wednesday when they take on the red-hot UNC Wilmington Seahawks who have won 15 of their last 18 games.
Carolina will send senior right-hander Chris Munnelly to the mound to face the Seahawks. Munnelly will be making his second midweek start of the year as he enters the start with a 1-0 record and a 1.17 ERA in 15.1 innings of work. The Winston-Salem, native owns the best strikeout to walk ratio of his career so far in 2013 with 22 strikeouts and nine walks in eight appearances.
The Seahawks will counter with redshirt junior right-hander Blaze Tart who will be making his sixth start of the year on Wednesday. Tart boasts a 2-2 record and a 4.24 ERA over his 23.1 innings of work this season.
UNC Wilmington has a potent offense that entered the week ranked 30th in the country in scoring at 6.9 runs per game thanks in large part to 22 home runs.
Carolina entered the week with the nation's best scoring offense (8.9 runs per game) and the second-best pitching staff (1.70 ERA) according to the national rankings. The Tar Heels are hitting .321 as a team while holding opponents to a .194 mark.
With a win on Wednesday, head coach Mike Fox would claim his 1,200th career win. Fox has posted a 660-264-1 record during his 14-plus years as the Carolina skipper after going 539-141-4 during his 15 years at North Carolina Wesleyan. Fox is the winningest active coach in college baseball with a .747 winning percentage (1,199-405-5).
