GREENSBORO, N.C. - North Carolina senior midfielder Kara Cannizzaro was named Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday by the conference. It is the third weekly award for Cannizzaro this season and the second in consecutive weeks.
Cannizzaro scored eight goals in a pair of road wins for the Tar Heels last week. In Thursday's win at No. 6 Duke, she scored four times, including the game-winner in overtime, in a 12-11 victory over the Blue Devils. Cannizzaro also collected two ground balls, controlled a draw, and caused a game-high three turnovers.
In Saturday's 18-11 win at Virginia Tech, the native of Cazenovia, N.Y., tied for game highs with four goals and five points while also tallying a caused turnover and a ground ball. North Carolina has won 11 games in a row, tied as the second-longest streak in program history.
Boston College sophomore goalie Emily Mata was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Week.
Carolina will return to action on Saturday at top-ranked Maryland.
