Nine North Carolina gymnasts have been named to the 2013 East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) All-Academic Team, the league announced Monday.
Elizabeth Durkac (psychology), Michelle Ikoma (business) and Meredith Magjuka (business administration) earned conference academic honors for the fourth straight season. They were joined by three-time honorees Kristin Aloi (pharmacy) and Acacia Cosentino (English). Also earning recognition for the Tar Heels were freshman Lexi Cappalli (chemistry), junior Emily Cornwell (psychology), sophomore Janell Sargent (psychology) and freshman Josselyn Mackey (general college).
In order to garner EAGL All-Academic Team honors, student-athletes registered a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.0 or higher at the end of the fall 2012 semester. Freshmen were also eligible.
All of the honored student-athletes will be recognized during the 2013 EAGL Championship Banquet on Friday, March 22, at the Kenan Stadium Concourse Club on the campus of the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C.
UNC will play host to the 2013 EAGL Championship on Saturday, March 23, at 2 p.m. in Carmichael Arena. Tickets can be purchased at GoHeels.com.
