TALLAHASSEE, FLA. - The University of North Carolina men's golf team fired a 3-over-par 291 and stands in seventh place after the second round of the Seminole Intercollegiate. The Tar Heels have a 2-over 578 total going into Sunday's final round. Sophomore Brandon Dalinka led the Tar Heel team on Saturday as he fired a 2-under-par 70.
Dalinka, from Newtown, Pa., has a 2-under 142 total and stands in 18th place. Dalinka fired two birdies and one double bogey, but his day was highlighted by an eagle-3 on the par-5, 562-yard 10th hole. The top Tar Heel performer of the day was junior Andy Sajevic who fired a 3-under 69 for a 3-under 141 total, but his score cannot count towards the team total since he is competing as an individual. The Fremont, Neb., native fired four birdies and just one bogey on the day. Two Tar Heels, freshman Keagan Cummings and sophomore Bailey Patrick, are tied for 25th place at even par 144. Patrick, from Charlotte, N.C., fired an even par 72 on Saturday while Cummings, from Dublin, Ireland, shot a 1-over 73. Cummings also carded an eagle in the second round as he fired an eagle-3 on the par-5, 541-yard 16th hole. Senior Michael McGowan and junior Andy Knox both carded a 4-over 76 in the final round. McGowan, from Southern Pines, N.C., is tied for 39th at 4-over 148 while Knox, from Cary, N.C., has a 155 total and is tied for 57th.
Host Florida State leads the field of 11 teams with a 15-under-par 561 total. Both the Seminoles and Mississippi State fired a 4-under 284 in the second round. The Bulldogs are just one stroke behind the leader at 14-under 562. Coastal Carolina is in third place at 10-under 566 while Ohio State is fourth at 570, South Florida fifth at 571, Mercer sixth at 574 and Carolina seventh at 578.
Daniel Berger from Florida State and Sebastian Soderberg of Coastal Carolina are tied for the individual lead at 8-under 136. Soderberg fired a 7-under 65 while Berger carded a 3-under 69. Rowin Caron of Florida State and Joe Sakulpolphaisan of Mississippi State are tied for third at 6-under 139. There is a five-way tie for fifth place at 5-under 139 - Mississippi State's Axel Boasson, East Carolina's Grayson Murray, Mercer's Haus Reimers, Florida State's Chase Seifert and Coastal Carolina's Ben Wheeler.The final round of the 54-hole event will be played Sunday at Southwood Golf Course which features a par 72, 7,172-yard layout.
