GREENSBORO, N.C. - North Carolina senior goalkeeper Lauren Maksym has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced today.  Maryland attacker Alex Aust was the Offensive Player of the Week.

Maksym went the distance in the cage and recorded eight saves in Carolina's 11-5 win at No. 17 Penn on Saturday. The native of North Massapequa, N.Y., stifled the Quakers with six first-half saves as the Tar Heels built what would be an insurmountable 9-3 halftime lead. She added two ground balls as she improved to 4-1 this season in goal.

With five games played, Maksym leads the league in goals against average (5.14) and is tied for the lead in save percentage (.526).

Aust racked up 19 points in two games to help No. 1 Maryland stay perfect at 5-0 in 2013. The senior tallied five goals and five assists as the Terrapins defeated No. 6 Virginia 18-10 on the road Friday for their third-straight win over a top-10 foe. The 10-point total is tied for the third highest in Maryland single-game history.

On Sunday, the native of Sterling, Va., tallied four goals and five assists to help drop Hofstra, 16-11. Aust has tallied four goals in four of five games played this season.
