GREENSBORO, N.C. - UNC volleyball seniors Tia Gaffen and Cora Harms, and freshman Paige Neuenfeldt were named to the 2012 All-ACC Academic Volleyball Team, the conference announced Thursday.

Gaffen and Harms are each receiving their second nod, while Neuenfeldt is receiving her first honor. Neuenfeldt was also named to the 2012 All-ACC Freshman Team.

Miami senior setter Nrithya Sundararaman has been named the 2012 Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball Scholar-Athlete of the Year and headlines the 2012 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Volleyball team.

A neurobiology major, Sundararaman is the seventh Miami student-athlete across all sports to earn ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors and is the second straight Hurricane in volleyball. The Naperville, Ill., native graduated a semester early with Magna Cum Laude honors and was named to the Capital One Academic All-American Second Team.

On the court, Sundararaman led the league in assists with 10.72 per set and finished her career third in program history with 2,358. She earned honorable mention AVCA All-America, All-ACC, and AVCA All-Region honors.

Eleven schools are represented on this year's All-ACC Academic Team, led by Duke, Georgia Tech, Maryland, and Miami with four apiece. Clemson and North Carolina had three student-athletes recognized. Boston College, Florida State, NC State, Virginia Tech, and Wake Forest all had two players honored.

In addition to Sundararaman, All-ACC Academic team members who also earned All-ACC honors this past season include Clemson's Sandra Adeleye, Duke's Ali McCurdy and Christina Gray, Maryland's Ashleigh Crutcher, Miami's Alex Johnson and Taylor Hollins, NC State's Megan Cyr, and Virginia Tech's Cara Baarendse. Boston College's Katty Workman and North Carolina's Paige Neuenfeldt were named to the ACC All-Freshmen Team.

Clemson's Natalie Patzin, Duke's Gray, Virginia Tech's Baarendse, and Wake Forest's Beck were named to the league's academic honor team for the fourth time in their careers.

The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were established in September 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports. Candidates for the awards must have maintained a 3.0 grade point average for their career as well as a 3.0 for each of the last two semesters.

To be eligible for consideration for the All-ACC Academic Team, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.
